Pool Slats: Submerged or Top-Mounted? A Complete Guide
Share
Automatic pool covers come in different styles. The choice depends on one main factor: is your pool currently being built, or does it already exist? Here is a simple guide to help you choose the right pool slats for your project.
Scenario A: New Pool Construction If you are currently designing or building a new pool, the Submerged (In-ground) cover is the best choice.
Aesthetics: The mechanism is hidden in a "cave" behind the wall or in the floor. When the pool cover is open, it is completely invisible.
Requirements: You need to plan the technical niche (shaft) before pouring the concrete.
Scenario B: Existing Pool Renovation If you already have a finished pool, Top-Mounted automatic slats are the ideal solution.
Installation: Installed directly on the pool edge (coping stones). No need to break concrete or damage your terrace.
Functionality: It offers the exact same benefits—safety and insulation—as the submerged version.
Material Matters: PC vs. PVC Regardless of whether you choose a top-mounted or submerged pool cover, the most important choice is the material.
Standard PVC: Cheaper, but brittle. Can deform in high heat (+65°C).
Premium Polycarbonate (PC): What we use for Plungo pool slats. 250 times stronger than glass, hail-resistant, and withstands heat up to +120°C.
Summary For a sleek, invisible look on a new project – choose Submerged pool covers. For a quick upgrade to an existing pool – choose the Top-Mounted solution.
